Principal Investigator
Principal Investigator
Judith Carroll, PhD
Dr. Carroll conducts NIH- and American Cancer Society-funded research examining patterns and predictors of accelerated aging in various populations across the lifespan (e.g., maternal-child health, late life). Her research seeks to understand the interaction of psychological and behavioral factors with aging biology. One key area of her work is in cancer survivorship. Here she seeks to understand the interaction of cancer and aging with psychosocial and behavioral factors (Nature Reviews Clinical Oncology https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34873313/). She was recently named section editor for the Psychosocial Oncology section of the journal Cancer and serves as the Principal Investigator and lead for the laboratory studies in the multi-site “Thinking and Living with Cancer” (TLC) Study.
Dr. Carroll is an associate professor in the department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Science at UCLA and holds the Endowed Chair for the George F. Solomon Professorship in Psychobiology at UCLA. She is a faculty member of both the Cousins Center for Psychoneuroimmunology in the Jane and Terry Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior and the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center, and founder and director of the Aging, Biology & Behavior Laboratory. She began her faculty appointment in 2013 at UCLA supported by a K01 mentored research award from NIA. She has sustained support for her research and laboratory since then with grant support from NCI, American Cancer Society, NIA and the STOP Cancer fund.
